*Before Tuathia: Soarin was born in solitude, the end result of a bachelor stallion and an unclaimed mare. Kaelin was a wanderer, a stallion who wanted no rules and no one to command him, while Mariposa was a sweet mare chasing hollow dreams of love and Prince Charming. She followed Kaelin around, making their small herd a herd of three, and it stayed that way until Soarin was three and Marrisya was born.

Soon after his baby sister’s birth, a herd stallion named Tantor fought Kaelin and won Mariposa and her children, and Kaelin was released from any such duty to protect them. Soarin kept Marrisya safe even as Tantor ruled with an iron hoof, taking pleasure in mating with his mares against their will and generally scaring his own offspring. He became enamored of Mariposa and courted her properly, one of the very rare he had wooed, and they mated the following spring.

After that, however, things fell downhill. Soarin came of age and was kicked out, but he followed the herd carefully to make sure that his dam and sister were safe. The next year, Mariposa dropped a stillborn foal and was kicked out of the herd, leaving Soarin to take his mother and two-year-old sister to safety. He eventually found Kaelin, who now had a herd of his own, and made sure that his mother and sister would be safe before he left, and eventually came upon the splendor of Tuathia.
