The cold air beat on her, soothing the aches and pains of her body. She felt like she had traveled forever and now had found a place to shelter her from the winds. Well, slightly anyways. She moved into what must be a grove of trees, to try and escape the wind blowing. Her thick coat blocked most of it, but there was still the sharp stings of cold air that hit her. Not much of the grass was left and the streams were slightly frozen over. Her thirsty throat needed to be handled first.
Istari Luna, a dark black mare, moved through this grove of bare trees. She had come from a land far away, where she spent most of her days being abused and neglected. Except for Dolly and her son, Desperado, everyone hated her. Dolly had taken her in, treated her like her own. Desperado protected her from the other foals, who teased and hurt her. She missed them, but her father had sent her from the herd to appease another male of a different dark herd. In that herd, she was abused and raped a few times. Her depressed nature and unwillingness to eat had forced her to loose the foal. After that, she ran from the herd, never wanting to return.
Istari pushed her thoughts aside and moved to a spot that looked like it would easily crack in one of the streams. She put her hoof over it and pushed down lightly. The ice gave way and she lowered her head and took a slow drink. Too much of the frozen water would hurt her, so she took it easy.
After that, she moved around, picking the small branches off the willow trees, to have something to eat. Bark was not her idea of a meal, but she was not digging through the snow to find dead grass, she was hungry and not in the mood to play the digging game. She ate the small twigs she found and let them settle on her stomach. After she walked about a bit, she found two trees close together enough to cut off the cold wind. She settled in between them. There she rested lightly, keeping her senses on full alert.
