She a found a new place and just in time. The grips of winter had arrived. Thank gaia that her coat had grown thicker in time. She moved into a grove of bare willow trees, trying to find a place to get something to eat and rest.
Her name, Kayla. She had come from a distant land to find a new home. She had been traveling for quite some time and had found a place to settle, so she hoped. She found a stream to drink from. The water was cold, so she drank slowly, as to not hurt herself. After that, she tried to find some grass under the light dusting of snow this place had gotten. After finding very little, she found some twigs to munch on.
Kayla looked around and ventured about this place, getting a feel for it. She had never seen a grove quite like this. It was all willow tree. Bare willow trees, due to the winter cold. She could only imagine what this place looked like when it was in the spring time. After a bit, she found a nice spot, out of the wind to to rest. She hunkered down, and napped away.

The stallion took the winter in long strides as he galloped across the landscape. Like a ghost the phantom stag moved in silence. The only sound that gave him away muffled by the bitter and icy winter wind that flew against his body pushing his mane and tail behind his light grey body. The dapples that where marked upon his flesh where slight and barely able to be seen. Blue eyes searched, scanned and drove into the landscape with a mission. He was looking for any sign that others might be here. He had heard a rumor that this land was the claiming ground yes, but he wasn't to to kidnap anyone. No he was looking for any sign of another. Life in the winter was always easier with another equine around. There where not only safety in numbers, but warmth as well.
The phantom breathed slowly as he turned his pace from a gallop to a canter. His legs were warm, his body had blood flowing though it, but he was sore of the cold around him. His joints ached and even though he was but a mere three years old and just out of his colthood he felt as if he was some old stallion that would break his hip if he so much as moved it wrong. The cold played tricks on him mind, just like he is sure it does so for others. His joints, his bones they felt like glass inside his body, but they won't glass at all.
Eyes looking around he spotted what looked to be a bay mare hunkered down in a place somewhat out of the wind and cold. Going over towards her he shook his head as he came over in a trot. Snorting the cold from his nose he noticed that she was taking a nap and even though he didn't want to be rude, it would be rude not to say anything. "Forgive me madam I shall not harm you." He said as he stood three feet or so from her. His body was blocking the wind, making it so the wind would hit him and not the mare. With a shiver going down his spine he looked at the mare. Hoping he didn't scare her. "I am Phantom and I have some land around here in a valley. If you wish you may join me there." He told her in a calm voice. His blue eyes looking at her as he waited in silence for her response.

She must have not been in that sleep for long, for something pulled her from it. Her light dreaming had been of finding some handsome stallion, and have a foal with him. She wanted to be a mommy and have a family. It was her dream. As she awoke from her slumber, she thought there was a ghost standing in front of her for a moment. She took a few seconds, blinking, taking in the one that was standing in front of her. His words took a moment to penatrate her fuzzled mind, but she figured out what he was saying. She shook the stray snow flakes from her tresses and looked at him.
He was a handsome stallion, gray white as the snow. He had some dapples, but they were hard to be seen. What she could see of him told her he was a rather handsome and strong stallion. She composed herself and looked at him.
"A place to call home would be nice. And I am Kayla, by the way. It is rather nice to meet you." She said in a sweet, almost southern girl tone. She had been hoping she could find a wonderful home soon, just this was rather quick. But has her mother always told her, don't take a gift for granted, that is why they are called a gift. She moved from her spot and moved closer to him. She hated leaving the small shelter of the trees she found, but she had to. To see her knew home.
"Lead the way, I will follow you." She said, softly.

A smile spread across his strong figure as he looked at her. She seemed to be dreaming yet awake at the smallest of sounds. Looking her over he couldn't help, but note how pretty she was of course ones outer beauty isn't the most important thing. It is a plus, but not the most important. Ones heart, loyalty, and out look of their life and how it effects others is what is truly important. Friendships and family bonds make the world a much better place to live then loneliness and sorrow. The expression there is safety in numbers did apply in his life, but there is comfort and hope in numbers was more to the point.
Ears flickering on his head he listened to her speak before coming closer to him. "Oh course Kayla. It is call Kylong Valley. The place I - we call home." He said having to correct himself. He was know at this and he didn't expect her to join to quickly. Yet he is delighted that she did. He would move at a pace that would be easy for her to keep up with him, but not really slow at the same time. It was really a good pace though as it kept his heart beating at a steady pace so his core temp stayed up and kept him warm.
A ghost of a chance!

Kayla felt that this was the right thing to do. Let this stallion take her home, for he seemed very kind and noble. He was handsome, too. She moved through the snow with him to go to his new home. As they moved through the snow, she could hear his breath and his legs movements through the snow. She kept pace with him, so that their breathing and movements through the snow matched up. She felt content to know from now on, she would not be alone.
"Tell me about the valley, please, Phantom" She asked, in that sweet southern style voice again. She wanted to know all about the place she was going to be moving too. She was excited, for now she would have a place to live and a stallion that seemed sweet and noble to her. She kept moving with him. Looking about as they traveled. She always loved winter. A blanket of white that turned the world one color and made it look simple and heavenly. She waited for his reply, wondering what he was going to say and giddy to hear all about her new home.
