If being left alone was the answer to every life, then his mother would have never kept him close and taught him all that he needed to know about life. His sire was useless when it came to teaching him anything, but his dam made sure he knew what a true stallion was worth.
Knight had come from a family where there was not much happiness. His mother was a light mare taken by a dark stallion. His sire had been that dark stallion, but Knight found that he had not the malice that his father had towards life. He had his mother's soft, gentle nature, for she had instilled it into him through all her teachings. Knight moved through the forest of this new land. He was searching for a home, but none had presented itself yet. For the most part, he was just wandering about, trying to find something to do. He had traveled a long way from his home.
Knight was not a tall steed, standing only 15.2 hand highs. He was pure mustang, of perlino color. His creme tresses moved with the wind that flowed through the trees here. He was small in statuer, but big on heart. His mother had taught him much and he took that with him when he left. His father had told him he was worthless and sent him on his way. Yet, Knight knew better. He knew he was much better than his father told him he was. He was kind hearted and not cruel. He defended others, where his father thought it was a waste of time. He knew the value of a horse, where his father only wanted strength and nothing else. He was much different from his father, and that was what made him better.
Knight kept walking through the forest. His senses tuned to hear anything that moved around him. He wondered if there were any other horses here, or if he was the only one.

Everything was blank, dark if a shade had to be used to describe what my eyes could or could not see. The only thing keeping me connected to this world was that of the touch, smell, and voice of my overprotective mother. With the condition that I was in, especially at my young age I would of become someone's dinner real quick, and with that at stake I was very thankful to have her by my side at all times. My father on the other hoof left us as soon as he found out about my lack of sight. Was he ashamed, embarrassed, disappointed? Perhaps all three? Whatever his reasoning for high tailing it out of our lives would remain a complete mystery to me.
Mom never brought it up. Sometimes I would hear her crying at night, she missed him and that's all I know. I don't really understand, one day, or so she says I'll know. Maybe on my one year birthday she'll tell me more? It's coming up she says. Once the weather gets really hot and the rain stops for a little while, that's when I'll be a whole year old. Mom also said that most foals my age usually take this time to explore and play with the other foals, but we don't know anyone and she was too afraid to leave me out of her sight. We were all that we had for one another. I'd like to know what was out there, but her fears got to me, so I was very much afraid to leave her side.
On this day when the weather was changing from warm to even warmer I was following Mom through some forest. The shade welcome upon my creme coat of golden hues. She said I looked beautiful, but I couldn't tell so I went on believing her. For a few days now Mom wasn't feeling very well. We took lots of rests. She told me not to worry, but deep down I was because I had no clue what was really going on. Something happened, (she saved me from a snake, but the snake ended up biting her causing the venom to overtake her veins and slowly kill her) but she refused to tell me instead she said that she would be fine in a couple days. Well, those couple days have come and gone and from what I could sense things weren't fine. We were taking another long rest besides one of the trees, she laid down this time as I stood by her tucked in feet. Growing bored from all this standing around I gently nudged her for us to continue on. Not hearing her shift to move, I nudged her again before calling out to her. "Mom..."

He walked for a bit longer, his senses keeping in tune with the forest around him. Knight was searching, but not intensely. He was enjoying the feeling of this place around him. It was strange to him, compared to the place he came from. This forest was calm and inviting. Nothing like the home he had once knew, where everything and everyone was out to harm you. He was in a better place, and that was a good thing, for a stallion such as himself.
He had been walking through the forest for what seemed like hours, when he heard a small voice. It sounded female, like she was calling out to someone. He listened more intently and her the word mom. Knight picked up his pace and moved towards where the voice sounded from. As he came around some trees he saw a young filly standing over a lifeless, motionless body of a mare. From what he could guess, this lifeless one was the filly's mother. Knight approached carefully, not to startle the young girl.
"Dear one, as far as I can see, she is gone. I am sorry." He spoke softly, as he walked up. He looked down at the mare, who seemed to have passed away in the night. He stopped, not to close, to the filly and looked over at her. She was so young and so upset.
"My name is Knight, what is yours, little one?" He asked softly, trying to take her mind of her mother. Poor little girl, he could not leave her there. He would stay with her, till a more suitable home could be established.

My tiny ears were perked as forward as they could go, just waiting for her voice to break the dreaded silence that surrounded us. Time ticked slowly by and still nothing. The sound of my own breath being taken in and released was the only thing that could be heard. My frame braced itself as if it already knew what had happened, every muscle tensed - spring loaded just waiting to be set off into a panicked frenzy. With each passing second my worries and fears started to plague my already high on alert mind. My jaw open ajar debating to call out her name for a second time, but again nothing.
I couldn't tell anyone how long I had been standing there, like a boulder frozen in time I could feel the sun's warmth trace over my body before it's warmth was no longer felt. Nighttime had approached with the eerie calls of the forest owls above and scampering of the mice and other creatures below. By that time my stomach had started to growl, but I was too afraid to leave her side and eat. Maybe she was just taking a really long nap and just couldn't hear me? Yeah, that's it. Lowering my muzzle I again began to nuzzle her shoulder, this time her fur was cold to the touch, something not experienced until now.
I pulled back confused more now than I ever was. "Mom!" Without hesitation her name escaped as my breath rushed out of my body. Starting to shake from fear as well as low blood sugar from the lack of nutrition, my knees began to buckle but I sucked it up and held to my stance. Daylight had arrived once again, but it's warmth was not welcome this time around. "Momma...please wake up..." The last bit of my plea was barely mumbled out, tiny sobs shook at my ribcage as I could only fear for the worst. Not long after another arrived to my pathetic scene. His scent strange, voice calm, and energy steady strongly contrasting against mine.
"Dear one, as far as I can see, she is gone. I am sorry...My name is Knight, what is yours, little one?" I wanted to shy away and flee from this stranger, but with no movements or words from my mother I was too afraid to spring load off into the distance. My failed eyes panicked as they blankly searched toward the newcomer's voice. Trembles of sorrow and uncertainty shook throughout my tiny frame. Gone... I didn't want to believe him, but with how much time had passed and no reaction it had to be the truth..I could only try to fight back the tears, but they were already far ahead of the game. My voice could be heard as I tried to answer his question through my sniffles and sadness. "Waltz."

He saw the pain she was in and his heart when out to her. It was hard to loose a parent, especially one's mother. It was hard on anyone, no matter the age, but the younger ones took it the hardest. He stepped up beside her and placed his maw on her shoulder.
"I truly am sorry, little one." Knight whispered to her. He truly was sorry. He could only imagine her pain, for he himself had never lost a mother. He looked her over, she was a young lady, possibly yearling. She was not ready to be on her own yet. She was still learning. Knight knew she would need someone to protect her and help her learn all she needed to know. As he was thinking this, a sniffled reply to his question came. Walts. What a beautiful name for such a pretty young lady. Knight let a smile creep up on his maw, he would be her protector. He then looked down at her mother, looking over the fallen mare. He could see swelling in her leg and at a closer examination he could see a bite mark. Snake, so that was what claimed her mother's life. Knight lowered his head, offering a prayer to Mother Earth. Hoping that she was in her embrace now.
"Waltz, that is a beautiful name. Well Waltz, why don't you come with me. I can help ya out, till you are ready to move out to the world on your own." Knight said softly. He would help her, it was in his nature. The stag looked her over once more, and then noticed her smoky colored eyes. They were just staring forward, not looking over at him. Something in that moment of seeing that made him stop and think. She is blind, poor thing. Knight thought to himself. That definitely made his decision to stay close to her all that more firm. He stood like a statue, waiting on her decision.
"We can leave to get you some food and water, when ever you are ready. Take your time, Waltz. I will not go anywhere." He added that last part to give her comfort. Knight felt that she needed it right now.

My little lip continued to quiver as the seconds passed on, absorbing the truth about my mother wasn't going to be an easy task. Ears swirled around catching the movements of the stallion known as Knight. His muzzle rested on my shoulder which paused my thoughts momentarily, frozen, unsure on how to make of his kindness. I've never been around a stranger before, at least not without my mother by my side. "I truly am sorry, little one." Hearing his apology made my eyes close for a moment, hanging on to whatever strength I had left. He had nothing to do with her passing away, but still his words seemed to help heal the enormous wound placed on my heart. I wasn't ready to leave her side, but I had to in order to survive.
My frame remained still as I listened to Knight take a step closer toward my mother. Ears flicked back at the thought of him harming her, but he didn't stay near her long. Perhaps he was just double checking or something like that? I don't know. "Waltz, that is a beautiful name. Well Waltz, why don't you come with me. I can help ya out, till you are ready to move out to the world on your own." His words distracted me again, forcing my sorrow to be put on pause to be able to answer the kind stranger. "Thank you." At least I remembered my manners, taught to me by her. I moved my head in the direction of his voice again before continuing onward. "Umm, okay..Why do you want to help me?" It was a simple question, more so to better ease my own worries.
There was soo much that I needed to learn and know about the world, I'm already behind on a lot of things foals my age already know. Mom kept me pretty sheltered and I stopped asking questions after everything happened between mom and dad. My sight, or lack there of was another major problem. Should I tell him? He probably already knows by now, I think. "We can leave to get you some food and water, when ever you are ready. Take your time, Waltz. I will not go anywhere." I had completely forgotten about my rumbling stomach, but now that he brought it up I could feel the last bit of energy I had left drifting away. Nodding my head I found my way back over to my mom. Nuzzling her shoulder one last time I whispered my goodbyes to her. Small trembles started to appear again as I walked away and placed my muzzle to his shoulder, waiting for Knight to lead me to wherever we are to go.

She seemed scared to him and she knew that she would be some what frightened. She had just lost her mother and was not being approached by a strange stallion that had claimed to wanna help her. It was in his nature to help others, but she didn't know that. He was waiting to hear that all so infamous questioning word. Why? Just as he was thinking about it, she asked him why he wanted to help her. He smiled.
"Cause, its in my nature to help others. Its just who I am." It was the truth, the big Perlino stallion was such a softy. He watched her, heard her stomach rumble and he knew that he had to get her to something to eat soon. Yet, his patiences would win out. She would eventually realize that she needed to eat and he would take her somewhere to eat.
She went near her mother again and Knight felt his heart break for her. It must be tearing her apart inside for loosing her mom. He simply waited patiently. His mind began to drift and wonder. She would be happy at his home, in Kylong Valley. It could use the touch of one so pretty and bright. Knight smiled, it was settled, he would take her home to Kylong Valley. When she finally moved to his side, placing her maw on his shoulder, Knight shook his mighty crown and started walking slowly out. He didn't want her to loose touch with his shoulder.
"After we find you something to eat, perhaps I could show you my home, and yours. If you wish it so. A beautiful place called Kylong Valley." He said. The perlino stallion kept walking, glance back only a couple of times, almost afraid that the mare was going to stand up and try to kill him for coming near her daughter. Yet, her dead body remained motionless. Once they were out of sight of the body and the smell no longer permeated the air, Knight settled himself into the task of finding some food and water that were relatively close to one another.
Once he found a nice spot of sweet grass with a small stream near by he stopped. He looked over at her, and smiled.
"Eat and drink, little Waltz. Then we will go home."

"Cause, its in my nature to help others. Its just who I am." Momma mentioned that there were nice equines still around, she mostly spoke of them being mares or foals, but this stranger Knight must be one of the rare good ones left. It seems to be the case, after all he's been nothing but nice to me ever since he found us. She also spoke about the evil ones, but never really said anything more about them for fear of giving me bad dreams, nightmares I think she called them. Brushing that aside in my mind I nodded my head and smiled as best as I could given the situation we were in.
"After we find you something to eat, perhaps I could show you my home, and yours. If you wish it so. A beautiful place called Kylong Valley." My face lit up as the word home was uttered. That's what my Mom and I were looking for. She would be happy that I had one now. I wish she could come with us, my heart called out for her once more, but it's call was unanswered. In spirit she will be there, but it's not going to be the same thing as her actually being right there next to me. I nodded again as I played the name of my new home over again in my head. Feeling his muscles start to move I put my thoughts on hold as I focused on following his shoulder and placing my feet.
It didn't take long for the stallion to find a place for food, drink, and rest. A little stream could be heard babbling away, the grasses smelled sweet, and my stomach rumbled and gurgled like mad. "Eat and drink, little Waltz. Then we will go home." Smiling softly I stepped away from Knight, only a few steps before lowering my head and lipping at the tender greens. The grasses tasted sweet and my stomach was happy once again. Following my ears over to the stream I sucked up the cool liquid. Recovering my losses I finished up. Finding my way back over to Knight, I smiled again before putting my muzzle on his shoulder again, ready to go home. "Thank You."
Complete ~ Yay for new home! / How about we call this thread finished? =]
