He laughed when she mentioned never really leaving. He was so lucky, far too lucky to have wound up with a mare like her. She was beautiful and strong and her personality told him that she had a sassy side to her as well. He had a feeling that if he ever got on her nerves she would snap right back at him. That was an interesting feeling. He could hardly wait to see the day when he said something that got to her and she decided to snap back at him. He would be amused, and he would apologize, but he had a feeling she was downright gorgeous when she was pissy. Hell, she was always downright gorgeous.
"Well as long as you don't use that speed to get away from me..." he laughed. The thought of her running from some stallion trying to get on her back was amusing. He would be left in the dust, no one could touch her. And if they dared chase her he had a feeling she would lead them right back to him...and he would take care of any one who followed her. He was ruthless against mares, and he knew that a mare in the Hills with no protection was vulnerable. Luckily for Gabriel, she had found a protector and a lover all wrapped up in one giant, handsome, and black package.
When she looked herself over he knew she had caught him appraising her and he took a moment to explain, "I worry about you getting hurt," he murmured, "and you're too beautiful to look away from for long." She was too beautiful to look away from, and he admitted to herself that he was addicted to her. She was like heroin, nothing would get between the two of them. Her soft touch drew him to her and he reached out his muzzle to nudge her. Her touch set a fire in his soul, calling him to her, daring him to have her and keep her, telling him to never let her go.
"I will never make that mistake again. No matter what happens, you are staying with me. I'll be sure to never send you running into the embrace of another stallion." His words were honest. He would be careful not to hurt her and he would never have to send her away. That time was over. He may still be a brute inside, but around her he had a heart again. He was going back to the stallion he once had been. Sure a long time ago he had been a womanizer, but he felt as he had with Adalis. He felt as though his soul belonged to her and no one else. If he lost her, he would lose himself again.
"There is no one else for me," he breathed softly, his words quiet. He spoke the truth. No one could match her wits, no one could match her beauty, no one could match Gabriel. And certainly no one could win his love the way that the young one had. She was his enigma, his unique little mare and he was keeping her at his side for as long as possible. Losing her would be like losing everything all over again. He would keep her and his sanity. He was sure of it.
But would she stay if one of his victim's foals wandered up to him. Surely she would understand that he would never force breed another mare now that he had her. They were the result of his frustration which was soon to be satisfied by the mare before him. The others had been stand ins and mistakes. The foals they birthed were nothing to him. That much he was sure of. He was not afraid of killing any of his foals that would dare challenge him and he certainly wasn't afraid of defending himself if some lead came to challenge him. He was a fighter and Gabriel would understand.
"No," he murmured, "I just want to be sure that I am the one that you trust and want. I want to be sure that you are 100% comfortable with any situation that happens." He moved closer to her.
"And now that we have that established, let's find somewhere more private to celebrate your birthday," he winked. The mare was turning three and he wanted to be sure that he would be the first one to have her. Who knew what kind of stallions wandered in these hills? He would keep her safe with him. A three year old mare was usually the most vulnerable. He would keep her safe.
"I know just the place." He turned from her, glancing back to ensure that she would follow, "secluded, private...romantic." Another wink followed. He turned his head back, the place he was heading was close by, it was where he liked to call home.
